The "Rock N Roll Train" returns to Austin
After 13 years, rock legends AC/DC return to The Frank Erwin Center!
Review by Greg Testerman

Hard to believe it's been well over a decade since AC/DC has played in Austin, but finally the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees took the stage at a sold out Frank Erwin Center once again on Friday night.
Before the show, I could feel the excitement all around the arena as I took time to talk to some fans waiting outside. I was surprised by how many teenagers were hanging out and was quickly reminded of my younger days tailgating, waiting to see this very same band at this very same venue. Throughout the parking lot, you could hear the car stereos playing many of the band's powerful hits from the Bon Scott era (the bands late original lead singer) and of course the huge iconic hits from their 1980 multi platinum record "Back in Black" as well as some of the new music from the bands latest project, "Black Ice".
As always, the AC/DC stage set was HUGE and did not disappoint with larger than life power promoting props, fantastic lights, giant video screens, and probably the most powerful sound system of any touring band. The show began with a short cartoon which included an out of control speeding train crashing into the arena and the audience. When the smoke cleared, a life like wrecked train appeared on stage... The band emerged and the crowd roared with approval! The groove was on!

The band immediately and appropriately opened with "Rock and Roll Train" from the Black Ice CD, followed quickly by one of my all time favorites "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be". From then on it was hit after crowd pleasing hit!
It's a struggle to choose a single highlight of the night. There were so many hits to cover, the 15 minute guitar solo, and the mammoth inflatable "Rosie" that suddenly appears when the band plays the '70's smash hit "Whole lotta Lotta Rosie". Of course, "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "Shoot to Thrill" had the entire capacity crowd on their feet! The encore was also a real treat with Angus Young rising up from beneath the stage in a cloud of red smoke wearing his patented devil horns as he strummed the power cords of "Highway to Hell". The band finished things off with "For Those About to Rock (we salute you)" with fully armed cannons.
I must say I was pleasantly surprised by the energy the band still has after all these years and the quality of the production. We all had a blast! This five piece band from Australia can still make a lot of noise and as I write, my ears are still ringing to prove it!
